ANCIENT NIKOPOLIS

Nikopolis was build after the victory of the first Roman emperor, Octavian Augustus, in the battle of Actium against Mark Antony and Cleopatra, in 31 BC. It is the border city of the end of the Hellenistic area and the beginning of Roman rule. Don’t forget to visit the Nikopolis museum too. It includes a collection of architectural parts, a collection of sculptures from the area of Nikopolis, marble tombs from the cemetery of the wider region of Nikopolis and hundreds of other exhibits.

ROMAN AQUEDUST OF NIKOPOLIS

At the northest end of the Louros valley, near the village of Agios Georgios, north of Filippiada, dominates the Roman aqueduct of ancient Nikopolis. It traverses a distance of approximately 50 km.
